What exactly is a grant?
A grant is not a benefits or entitlement. A federal Grant is an award
of financial assistance from a federal agency to a recipient, for
the recipient to carry out a public purpose of support or stimulation
authorized by a law of the United States. Thus, it is important to
understand that Grants are not federal assistance or loans to individuals.
Also, a grant is not used to acquire property or services for the
federal government's direct benefit.
What types of grants are available?
The 26 federal Government agencies offer over 1,000 grant programs
annually in twenty different categories. The categories are detailed
below. Some government agencies may be listed in multiple grant categories
outlined below.

Who is Eligible for a Grant?
There are many groups of organizations that are eligible to apply
for government grants, but typically, most grantee organizations
fall into the following categories - Individuals, Small Businesses,
For-Profit Organizations (other than small businesses), Non-Profit
Organizations, Public Housing Organizations, Education Organizations,
and Government Organizations.
